From the Principal’s Pen!

Welcome to Spring Mill Elementary School, home of the Bulldogs! I am proud to be the principal of a school where educators, students and families partner together with a sense of joy and a focus on excellence in education.

Spring Mill opened in the ‘baby boom’ year of 1959 and is getting ready to open its doors to students, staff and families for its 57th year this fall.

Spring Mill takes pride in delivering a strong, well-rounded, quality education. We are currently an International Baccalaureate World School and my team creates an environment that stimulates curiosity and eagerness for learning. Our media center offers an extensive collection of resources for students and teachers. Our young scientists experience active learning in an outdoor interactive nature center. Music, art, physical education, media and Spanish are an integral part of our curriculum. Students have access to a wide range of technology resources. Our staff includes general education teachers, special educators, a teacher for English Language Learners, literacy and math coaches, a speech therapist, school psychologist and instructional assistants. We also house the MSDWT At Your School (AYS) program for before and after-school child care.

At Spring Mill, we work to enable our students to think creatively, be curious, and maximize their potential for leading productive, fulfilling lives as citizens and doers in a complex and changing world. Our teachers engage in high quality professional development with a focus on using best practices in instruction to improve student achievement. In addition to the Indiana Academic Standards and township goals and objectives, our students focus on taking action to make a difference within our school, our community and sometimes reaching out to other parts of the world.

We celebrate the diversity of our families who share our passion for excellence. Spring Mill’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a tremendous asset to our school. Our PTO Executive Board plays an incredible role in coordinating the work of parent volunteers and strengthening our resources. Parents are active partners and support us throughout the school as they volunteer in classrooms and lead a wide range of student activities each year. We take pride in their presence at our school every day and truly count on them!

Kurt Hahn’s words: “We are crew, not passengers” forms the foundation of how we see our school community. We know you will feel the sense of joy and partnership that permeates our interactions on a daily basis at Spring Mill, as soon as you walk through our doors. We hope to welcome you in person to our beautiful school.

Keep smiling!
